Who Requires Laser Gum Lift Surgery & How It Helps?

Some people are born with excessive gum tissue that makes their teeth appear small & short creating a gummy smile. For people who are conscious and bothered by the excessive tissues around their teeth, laser gum lift surgery provides a long -term cosmetic correct solution.

What to expect in my procedure when getting a Laser Gum Lift?

The whole treatment is completed very quickly with the appointment usually lasting between 30-40 mins.

During the appointment, Dr Cate will place a local anaesthetic and then use her laser to trim away the excess gum tissue. When using a laser there is no bleeding and you can get back to work almost immediately. The tissue is slightly darker for 24 hours and then will heal completely painlessly.

What results should I expect?

Areas that have received Gum-lift treatment should heal to normal appearance after 1-2 weeks. During that period they will naturally be a little bit sensitive, but overall you shouldn’t notice them too much.

Once the healing process has been completed, you will be surprised to see virtually no sign indicating you have had any form of gum treatment. Your teeth will look longer and hopefully, your smile will be even bigger due to the joy from your new smile.

Laser Gum Lift FAQ's

It takes an expert eye, but sometimes teeth look too small when they are in actual fact, there is an overgrowth of the gingiva or gum tissue causing them to look smaller. By using a local anaesthetic and soft tissue laser, we can expertly adjust the contours of your gum and instantly make your teeth “grow”.

Laser gum lift surgery is a common procedure that helps keep the mouth clean by reversing the damage caused to the gums by bacteria. The advantages of a laser gum lift procedure are a cleaner mouth and well-shaped, symmetrical teeth. In addition, the following are some other benefits of this procedure.

  • Faster Recovery
    • Being closer to non-invasive techniques, laser gum surgery does not involve extreme pain and swelling. Nor does it require the patient to be on a liquid diet for days. Laser gum lift surgery takes a maximum recovery time of 24 hours, which may be characterised by only mild discomfort.

  • Precise Treatment
    • The laser helps target very specific and even very tiny portions of the affected gums so that no healthy gums or tissues surrounding the infection are damaged in the process. The laser gum lift procedure is highly precise and accurate whether done for aesthetic purposes or to deal with an infection.

  • Less Invasive
    • The laser gum lift procedure is far less invasive than several traditional gum surgery techniques as it does not cut into the gums. This also means lower risks associated with bleeding, infections, or sensitivity around the gum area. Overall, the procedure does not involve slicing the tissues or high risks of complications.

  • Improves Smile
    • Laser gum lift surgery is one of the most efficient procedures that can lift the gums to reveal longer, straighter, and beautiful teeth. Those who have shorter teeth or a gummy smile can benefit from this procedure. Eliminating the need to conceal the mouth when smiling or being self-conscious, it can help elevate people’s confidence and self-esteem.

Since local anesthesia is administered before the surgery, a gum lift is relatively less painful. And in most cases, it might only cause mild comfort instead of pain, which might last for a couple of days.

A gum lift procedure, unlike many other dental procedures, requires only one sitting. And it takes only about 1 to 2 hours to contour the gums, based on the gum area that is to be fixed.

Laser gum lift is a permanent dental procedure. Excess gum tissue is removed in order to reposition the gum line. There is no way that your gum will grow back. It’s a one-time procedure that will help achieve a dramatic and long-lasting improvement in your smile.

While it takes about 24 hours for the discomfort to go away, it may take 2 to 4 weeks for the gums to completely heal. The healing time also depends on the severity of the bacterial disease and the amount of gum tissues removed.

Private dental health insurances in Australia cover laser gum surgery, among other dental procedures. However, different health funds offer different coverage. Also, some dental practices might not accept all private health funds.
